Shop Act Validity: Dispelling the Annual Renewal Myth

One of the most persistent misconceptions among Pune business owners is that all Shop Act ("Gumasta") licenses require mandatory annual renewal. This belief stems from the outdated 1948 legislation, which required annual or triennial renewal stamps.

The Legal Position under the Act of 2017:

• Form A Intimation (0 to 9 Employees): Carries LIFETIME VALIDITY. It does not expire, and there is zero requirement for annual renewal, periodic fee payments, or renewal stamping. Once issued, it remains active permanently until the business ceases operations.
• Form F Registration (10 or More Employees): Depending on the option selected during application, Form F certificates can be granted for a period of up to 3 years or permanent validity, subject to the employer’s statutory fee choice on the portal.
